Futbol fans vs. Football fans

Without being biased, I am curious to see what group of fans you think is more devoted to their teams... Comment futbol or football below and give an explanation if possible.

  1. The most interesting thing to me about this video is that all of the American examples were college teams. Professional sports in America just don't elicit the same passion from the crowds as collegiate sports do.

If I had to pick one, I'd say futbol fans are more devoted, due to the widespread culture of traveling to away matches. I feel like this doesn't happen as much in college football. A few of the European futbol examples in the video didn't even take place in the team's home stadium.

    1. Coming from a Big Ten school, I think we can give futbol fan bases a run for their money. However, I have to agree that a college football game's fan base is by far more rowdy and loud than the NFL's. College football games atmosphere can definitely compete. Everyone always looks forward to Saturdays in the fall.

    2. The fact that all the football clips were of college fans was shocking to me! I think that futbol fans are the most devoted, but college fans come in a close second, and the NFL fans come in at dead last. The reason why I think futbol fans and college football fans are so passionate is because they feel as if they are a part of the team. It is nice to be a part of something that is bigger than you and this is their outlet. The NFL on the otherhand is so commercialized that it is harder to feel that you are actually part of the team.

  2. Europeans are definitely more expressive when it comes to showing support for their teams, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are more devoted fans. I personally believe its just a cultural thing; it all depends on how fans are raised and what is considered to be right or wrong by each specific society.

    1. I totally agree with this! Family, friends, and other influences play a huge role on how dedicated you are to your team. Thats why I think in general futbol fans are more devoted... Europe really only cares about one sport which is why they are so passionate about it. If your parents love a team you are obligated to love the team as well. In the U.S. there are so many sports that it is hard to be equally devoted to all of your teams. For example, my Dad is a die hard Yankees, Knicks, Giants, and Rangers fan because he is from NY. I am from LA and love the Yankees and Giants because baseball and football are my Dad's favorite sports, but he did not watch as much hockey and basketball which is why I would consider myself a Ducks and Lakers fan more so than the New York teams.

  3. Futbol, no question. Coming from a Big Ten school as well, school spirit is great but nothing compared to the passion expressed from the Europeans and their home team. So much emphasis is placed on sports and their team from such a young age that the energy and love displayed during the games is unreal.

  4. I agree with Josh. There is definitely more devotion to college football teams than to NFL football teams. In regards to who I believe is the most devoted, I would say futbol fans. This is evident from the elimination of alcohol at futbol games because of how aggressive the fans were getting. Additionally, football teams have cheerleaders to signal fans to get loud, whereas futbol teams don't need any help getting support from their followers.

  5. Futbol no question about it. Yes college games have great devoted fans, and a very lively stadium experience. But if you notice, most college cheers are based on music provided by the stadium and with futbol yo see that the chants are created by themselves. Another big difference is that football fans, watch the big stars, even if their team is out of competition there still going to watch the Super Bowl, or the bowl games in college football. With Futbol many fans stop watching the event after their team is eliminated or does not play anymore, to that extend is which their devotion runs to.

  6. Futbol is definitley more devoted. I think that is also because a lot more is allowed in European stadiums than is in college/professional sports stadiums in the US. Think about it, you cant have types of bottles at a US game sometimes and in the Euro stadiums they start fires......

  7. Futbol fans. Futbol fans are passionate from young to old and create their own noise and music in the stands and just in general go nuts. Yes colleges have awesome passionate fans as well, but in the video you can clearly see a lot of their noise levels is generated from the pump up music blaring in the stadium.

  8. Interesting video. I would say futbol fans are more devoted. Each team has at least one quite strong supporter group. They are formed by the most devoted fans, who sometimes travel with the team also. They are the representatives of how European fans can devote into futbol.
