The following link leads to the "table" of the english premiership. Take a look at the differences compared to how we might see the standings kept in the NFL, or any other american league for that matter. What are some other differences? Do you think this system is better, or worse than how we see things in america?

  1. In American sports, the standings are more segmented in terms of divisions and conferences playing a much larger role. Because of the 4 different time zones that make up the continental United States, teams need to be grouped into smaller standings' processes in order to make travel more reasonable for teams. If American sports were more cohesive in their standings' determination, it might settle some of the disputes regarding wildcard issues and worse teams competing during the postseason.

    1. Eli,
you make a good point about the travel concerns, which i had not thought about. but your ladder point is exactly what I was getting at. wouldn't it make so much more sense if every team just played every team.... especially in comparison with the NFL. Did you know that the first Playoff tiebreaker int he NFL is conference record? thats right, your judged not on how you faired against the league as a whole, or a stat which would represent that, but how you did against your specific conference. further proving your point on the advantages of the premier league style.
